Yabbies of yore: The Cretaceous crayfish of Victoria

Numerous fossil sites have been found along the coastline of Victoria, the most productive being at Flat Rocks, the Dinosaur Dreaming dig site near Inverloch where volunteers work to recover fossil rich chunks of rock from the shore platform. Along with bones of dinosaurs and mammals, this site has provided Australia’s first recorded fossil crayfish burrows.

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

So what motivated me to travel halfway across the world and end up at the Dinosaur Dreaming site in the first place, asking questions about fossil crayfish and later experiencing such challenges and triumphs? After all, Dinosaur Cove and Dinosaur Dreaming were not called ‘Crayfish Cove’ and ‘Crayfish Dreaming.’ Well, it’s a long story but it did have a beginning, and that beginning was a lifelong fascination with the mysterious land down under. I was determined to visit Australia some day to learn about its fossils and natural history.
